Common Ground Community Garden

October, 2011

Dear Gardeners:

As the growing season nears an end, we would like to congratulate everyone on their gardens and hope that everyone had a successful season.

Those gardeners who wish to continue with their garden plot in 2012 must reapply and a garden application is enclosed for your use.  If you do not reapply by April 1, 2012, your garden will be reassigned to one of the hopeful gardeners on our waiting list.

All “water keys” must be returned to Community Development ~ we are located in the lower level of Township Hall located at 4980 Shattuck.

Once again, as you clean out your garden you may place your garden waste in an approved yard waste bag and leave it at the garden.  Please do not empty your garden waste into the compost pins. We are continuing to have issues with the compost bins.  Please do not place any more of your garden waste in the compost bins as they are filled to capacity.

We would like to remind everyone that by November 1st gardeners are required to remove all non-plant materials from their plots, including weed-block fabric, plastic pots, wire tomato cages, stakes, tools, etc. Gardeners who fail to adequately clean out their plots will not be re-assigned to them the following year.  The Department of Public Services will be plowing under all gardens (except the two perennial gardens near the sidewalk.)

Thank you for another successful year.

Dear Gardeners:

At this time we are accepting renewals from current gardeners and new requests. Our existing gardeners have the first right of refusal.   A registration packet is available below.  The packet includes the following:

  1. Application
  2. Guidelines and Rules
  3. List of organic pesticides

The above documents are Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). If you do not have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer, you may download it here.

Please familiarize yourself with the guidelines and rules. Our goal is to provide everyone with a safe, relaxing community space. We hope you will work together to provide a friendly environment and to respect one another and the hard work you put towards growing your gardens. It is also our hope that you will take pride in your garden and remember to maintain a clean and safe environment for everyone to enjoy.

If you have any questions, please call Bridget Smith at 989-791-9865 or email her at bsmith@saginawtownship.net.  Thank you for your interest in our community gardens program.

Happy Gardening!
