FIREWORKS

Earlier this year, Saginaw Charter Township adopted an ordinance governing the use of consumer fireworks.  As you may be aware, the State of Michigan changed the regulations regarding fireworks and has limited when communities can enforce certain regulations.

By State law, consumer fireworks are permitted to be used until 1 am. on the day before, the day of, or the day after, the following national holidays:
  • New Year's Day, January 1
  • Martin Luther King Day, third Monday in January
  • President's Day, third Monday in February
  • Memorial Day, last Monday in May
  • Independence Day, July 4
  • Labor Day, first Monday in September
  • Columbus Day, second Monday in October
  • Veteran's Day, November 11
  • Thanksgiving, fourth Thursday in November
  • Christmas Day, December 25

On all other days, no person is permitted to ignite, discharge or use consumer fireworks between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.  Violations are considered a civil infraction and a ticket may be issued.  Violations should be reported to the Police Department

Free Smoke Detector Program Completed

The free smoke detector has been completed.  Through the program we were able to install new smoke detectors throughout approximately 200 homes in Saginaw Township.

The program was such a huge success we will be applying for another grant to conduct another program in the future.  We will announce that information as soon as it becomes available.  Thank you to all of the residents that participated in this program.

Outside Burning Regulations

Spring has finally arrived and many of you will begin the task of cleaning up all of the branches, limbs, leaves and other yard debris from a long winter.  There are several options available to residents to dispose of this debris, primarily curbside yard waste pick up, and the township brush site.  However, some residents may choose to burn the debris.  Open burning is permitted in Saginaw Township, however it is only permitted under very specific conditions.  Please DO NOT conduct outside burning until you have reviewed all of the regulations contained in the "Burning Regulations" section of this website.
