MOTORCYCLE UNIT
BENEFITS
The Saginaw Township Police Department utilizes two fully marked police motorcycles in it's fleet.
The units are used for traffic enforcement as well as parade duty and funeral escorts.
Currently there are four officers certified to operate the motorcycles on the roadways of Saginaw Township.
TRAINING
The officers attend an 80 hour intensive training program at Michigan State University. They learn to operate the 103cu Harley Davidson Electra Glide units in various high stress emergency situations. The two week long class consists of four hours of classroom "bookwork" and 76 hours of ride time.
COMMUNITY POLICING
Officers have found that the motorcycles are a tremendous asset to the department in terms of community policing activities and presentations to our youth. The motorcycles are not a common sight and offer an opportunity for interaction between officers and the community.
