Saginaw County Mosquito Abatement Commision -Spring 2015

Saginaw County Mosquito Abatement Commission's (SCMAC) Spring Aerial Larviciding Program for the control of mosquitoes breeding in seasonally flooded woodlots is tentatively scheduled to begin Wednesday, April 15, 2015.  Treatment is weather dependent; therefore they may start treatment a few days early or experience delays.

This program involves an aerial contractor, Al's Aerial Spraying from Ovid, Michigan.  This contractor has six fixed-wing aircrafts that will be conducting low level (25 feet above treetops) aerial application over large areas of Saginaw County.  Click here to view a map of the area indicating which woodlots will be larvicided (treated pattern - green) and those that will not be larvicided (no treat pattern - red).

Bti Distribution Program Update - New for 2015:  SCMAC will ONLY pass out product one time at the beginning of the season.  Saginaw Township will receive a set amount, which is based off of previous usage.  For the last few years, SCMAC's allotted budget for the Bti Distribution has continued to increase, as well as the cost of the product.  Therefore, in order for SCMAC to operate within their budget, changes had to be implemented.   Residents may obtain 1 -30 oz jug of Bti granules per month, per resident.  If more product is needed, residents may contact SCMAC at (989) 755-5751.  Residents may also arrange to have a ground crew check their property for standing water and treat if necessary.

SCMAC realizes there is a lot of standing water throughout Saginaw County, but due to the cool temperatures, the larvae that are present are very small and developing slowly.  Please verify first that larvae are not present prior to treating. Bti products do not have residual, therefore if no larvae are present do not treat.

For further information or questions, please contact the SCMAC at (989) 755-5751 or check out their website:   www.scmac.org.
