Saginaw Township Waste Management Program - Waste Paint Handling

Used Paint Handling Tips:

Latex Paint: If paint cans are almost empty, take lid off, mix in shredded newspaper, kitty litter or use a waste paint hardener, available at hardware stores. When dry, throw the paint cans and lids in your regular garbage.

Oil-Based Paint: This type of paint is not easy to manage at home. Instead, drop off at a Paint ReNew location or take to an HHW collection. Refer to the information below for details on these programs.

Used Paint Donations:

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization which builds houses for families in need of affordable housing. Usable paint is often needed for these projects, as well as for resale in their discount rehab materials warehouse store, ReStore Saginaw.

To donate useable paint and other home rehab materials, please call Habitat ReStore at 791-4598.

How late do the garbage truck drivers work? Until the day's scheduled routes are collected, this may mean in bad weather or when large quantities of material are collected, routes will be serviced into the evening.

What holidays affect trash pick-up? Six major holidays affect trash pick-up services. Sunday and weekday holidays cause a one-day collection delay for both the holiday and all days following in the same week. However, holidays falling on a Saturday do NOT delay services. Watch your local paper for holiday trash schedules.

How do I dispose of fluorescent tubes? Household residents may dispose of fluorescent tubes in their regular trash by following these procedures:

• Do not break the tubes
• Stand tubes upright in the trash container in plain view or place next to trash.
